Why you can trust our list
How we verify car shipping companies
Handing your car to a stranger takes trust. That's why no company appears in our directory until it passes five checks against federal FMCSA records and a review by our team. Here is exactly what we look at — and why it protects you.
The five checks
What every company has to pass
A company that fails any one of these doesn't get listed. No exceptions.
-
01
Licensed to move your car
- What we check
- The USDOT and MC numbers are real, belong to this exact company, and its operating authority is active.
- Why it matters to you
- An unlicensed mover can take a deposit and disappear. Active authority means the company is legally allowed to haul vehicles across state lines.
- Where you'll see it
- USDOT and MC numbers on every listing, linked to the public FMCSA record.
-
02
Insured while your car is on the truck
- What we check
- Cargo and liability insurance is filed with the FMCSA, and we record the per-load cargo limit.
- Why it matters to you
- If your car is damaged in transit, the carrier's cargo insurance is what pays. No filing, no listing.
- Where you'll see it
- The cargo insurance limit, so you can compare it with your car's value.
-
03
Clear about who moves your car
- What we check
- Whether the company runs its own trucks, books partner carriers as a broker, or does both.
- Why it matters to you
- You deserve to know who will actually have your keys. Brokers must be registered too — we check both.
- Where you'll see it
- A Carrier, Broker or Carrier & broker label on every company.
-
04
A real fleet and a clean record
- What we check
- How many trucks the company operates and its FMCSA safety rating, where one has been issued.
- Why it matters to you
- An established fleet and a Satisfactory rating are strong signs the company runs a safe, steady operation.
- Where you'll see it
- Fleet size, safety rating and years in business on the company page.
-
05
Services that match reality
- What we check
- A moderator reviews every service and state a company lists. Anything that doesn't add up goes back to them.
- Why it matters to you
- When a company says it offers enclosed transport or serves your state, you can rely on it.
- Where you'll see it
- Services, headquarters and service area on each listing.
High bar, on purpose
What keeps a company off our list
Plenty of companies apply. These are the reasons we turn them away — or take a listing down if something changes later. Verification isn't a one-time stamp: every day we re-check each listed company's USDOT status, operating authority, insurance or broker bond, out-of-service orders and safety rating against FMCSA records, and pause any listing that stops passing until it's fixed.
- Inactive or revoked authority. If the FMCSA says a company can't operate, neither can its listing.
- No insurance on file. Lapsed or missing cargo coverage means the listing is hidden until it's restored.
- Numbers that don't match. A USDOT or MC number registered to a different business name is an instant no.
- Claims we can't confirm. Services, fleet or coverage that don't match the company's records go back for correction.
- No way to reach them. Every listed company has a working email and a real business address or headquarters.
Double-check in a minute
Don't just take our word for it
Our checks are built on public records, so you can confirm any company yourself before you book.
-
1
Copy the USDOT number
You'll find it on every company card and profile in our directory.
-
2
Look it up
Paste it into our car shipping company lookup or the FMCSA's own Company Snapshot.
-
3
Match the details
The name should match, and operating status should read “Authorized”. That's the same record we checked.
